Jashin-chan Dropkick! X - Episode 2

2022-7-16

WARNING: SPOILERS BELOW.

This episode flew by. You know a show's really good when it's over before you know it. The plot surrounded Lierre's visit to Earth, Yurine's guilt over knocking her out with 1 punch, and Pino's crippling fear of her.

Speaking of Pino, this episode really fleshed out just what an anxious and hysterical girl she is. It's been hinted at before, however seasons 1 & 2 focused more on her un-angelic desire for power. In this episode, we saw her having panic attacks and popping several pills to calm herself down. She also used this object that looked and behaved like a taser on her thigh to regain some of her power.

Later, when Lierre came to visit and check on Pino and Pekola, Pino wrongly assumed Lierre was there to kill her. To stop that, Pino poisoned her food. I love how every attempt at killing Lierre ended up being misdirected at Jashin - not only that, but everyone except Medusa completely ignored Jashin when she raised any grievance over being injured/blacked out! Pino's misguided attempted murder just goes to show - don't assume. You make an 'ass' out of 'u' and 'me'. Pino then said she'd take the rest of her pills and kill herself, which as Yurine pointed out was pretty ironic, considering she was just terrified of dying 2 minutes ago! Lierre is all too aware what a piece of work Pino is...

Devil-sama taught the Japanese viewers the English word for potato. And I think most viewers outside of central Europe learned of the existence of Oiry, France. The pun there was that Oiry sounds just like "owari" when said by a Japanese person. It's over...or so Pino thought. Hopefully we'll see more of Kyon-Kyon this season, but I also noticed during the OP we have 2 new characters being added to the cast! They only introduced Kyon-Kyon a bit later in season 2, so she and her twin really need more airtime. I kind of skimmed over the fact that Yurine is somehow powerful enough to knock out one of the most powerful angels with 1 punch, but Lierre's temporary childlike form could have something to do with that. Yurine is so amazing, as always.

I've gone on long enough. I hope you're all enjoying the crowdfunded 3rd season, which Jashin dedicated a dropkick to! Onto next week.
